Avocado Con
Avocados galore! What better place than San Francisco for a festival dedicated solely to avocados! Perfect for me–I love avocados! The event was held at SoMa Streat Food Park, and admission is only $5–you do have to pay for the individual vendors. They regularly have food trucks for the lunch rush and put on many other food events. I am so lucky to have access to such cool food events in the Bay Area–it's much harder to find these in South Orange County. I attend UC Berkeley, so I am a short BART ride away from my favorite city! I've been busy with school, so I'm writing this one month (I just realized it was exactly one month ago) after the event happened. But hey, it's a recap, so you can still scroll through to see all the avocado foods I ate!
Lobo's Ice Cream
Lobo's Ice Cream uses hemp and coconut milk for their ice cream which means it is vegan-friendly! Perfect for my lactose-intolerant self! In addition, the ice cream is organic and hand-turned. They were serving up avocado ice cream–I know, it sounds weird, but it was so good! So creamy and fresh. Not only did they serve avocado ice cream–we got a special avocadonada– their take on the popular mangonada. Mango sorbet, topped with avocado ice cream and tajin! So creative!
Doughp: Legit Cookie Dough
The edible cookie dough craze continues with avocado chocolate cookie dough! Not only does Doughp (pronounced dope) make edible cookie dough, they are an advocate for spreading awareness for mental health and reducing the social stigmas around it. Their motto is "to keep it raw and keep it real, everyday," applying to both cookie dough and life. Although I only tried a sample, the "legit chocolate avocadough" was dense yet delicious.
Poke Delish
Have you ever seen a poke-stuffed avocado? I bet you haven't...until now! Poke Delish made this special dish just for Avocado Con! Yes, the pit of an avocado is small and doesn't allow for much poke to be stuffed into it, but the flavors of the poke made up for it. Marination was on point! It was a little tough to eat, though. I opted for the plate with one of each–tuna and salmon. The presentation of my plate was nowhere near as pretty as the one they set up on display, but it's ok because I got a picture of the display.
Nombe SF
Besides the ice cream, my favorite food at Avocado Con was the panko-crusted avocado fries with serrano lime aioli from Nombe SF. I've had tempura avocado fries, but these were next level. The crispy crunch from the panko married with the buttery avocado made this grub stand out! And it was hot, right out of the fryer. Eat it with your fingers. No forks allowed.
